Please note there is also a Marzanna Triangle shawl version. You can purchase both versions as a bundle for $12.99 Canadian simply by adding both of them to your cart at the same time.
Marzanna is a 3/4th shawl knit during the coldest winter I’ve ever experienced on my wee island. Named after the Slavic goddess of Winter, life cycles, and fertility, this shawl is also a nod to my Polish ancestry. Marzanna is said to represent the various transitions of mortal life and of death leading to rebirth. It is her death each Spring that allows for the birth of Lada, her Spring incarnation. The cycle of Marzanna and Lada remind us that you cannot have birth without death, cycles of light must also come with dark. I was reminded during the bitter cold, that this time also brought quiet time for knitting this meditative piece and cozy moments.
The 3/4th shawl enveloping shape is perfect for staving off the winter chill... though I find I've been using her quite frequently at the beach and on the porch as well during the summer evenings. I love this shape so much, I often wear my 3/4th shawl in place of a sweater outside or a blanket when I am inside. I particularly love the way it hangs and layers when the shawl corners are tossed over the shoulder.
Techniques to enjoy: Striping, yo's, stockinette and garter stitches, knit-on lace edging.

NOTES:
- For pattern support, please email wolfandfaunknits@gmail.com
- Yardage required for the pattern seemed to vary wildly for testers based on their gauge and whether they used a light fingering as per the original design or something thicker. Please purchase more than enough yarn for the project to avoid disappointment. The sample yarn comes in small 25g cakes in the event you do not love yarn chicken.
- I use the long-tail cast-on method but you can use the CO method of your choice.
> For the striped body portion, be sure to carry the yarn you are not currently working up the side with the working yarn for neat edges.
-The triangle shawl version of this shawl is also available here.
As always, instructions are in written and chart when applicable. The pattern has been tech-edited and tested. Thank you to my tech editor rhyFlowerKnits and to my lovely bunch of talented testers
